Dollens Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Dollens Cemetery in Johnson County, Indiana.

GPS Coordinates: 39.4490310, -86.1573550

This cemetery is located at the corner of State Roads 135 and 44 just passed Trafalgar.  It is also known as the South Stotts Creek Church Cemetery and possibly the Dollings Cemetery.  At some point in its past, a tree fell and took out a couple of headstones and no one has done anything to remove the tree or repair the headstones.  At least one is likely still under the tree.  There are under 30 interments at this tiny family cemetery and so many of the stones are in terrible condition and there were a few that I couldn't find.

Our first stop is at the grave of Elizabeth Hensley Dollens
Born: 1771, Albemarle County, Virginia
Died: February 5, 1858

Her father was William Hensley (1735-1806) and Mary Elliott Hensley (1740-1810).  They both died in Virginia, but I am not sure where they were buried.

Anderson Hensley Dollins (1805-1845) - unknown

Here we have the grave of Nancy Cook Dollens.

We now stop at the grave of Catherine Kerlin.
Born: unknown
Died: March 31. 1855

I am unsure as to who her parents were or the names of any siblings.

She was married to Peter Kerlin (1819-1862).  He is buried nearby in Dollens Cemetery.

She had one child that I have found:
George Dollins Kerlin (1851-1913) - buried in Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hopewell, Johnson County, Indiana

We now stop at the grave of Edmond Petty.
Born: 1802
Died: March 22, 1884, Indiana

His obituary states that he was buried in the Baptist Cemetery, which was likely another name for this cemetery.

He was married to Lucinda Petty (?-1883), who is buried nearby in Dollens Cemetery.

I have found no other information for him.

Here is the lower half of the headstone of Lucinda Petty.
Born: unknown

I have no other information for her.

We now stop at the grave of John T. Tapp.
Born: 1851
Died: September 16, 1870, Indiana

He was the son of Richard Thompson Tapp (1814-1893) and Sarah Sellers Tapp (1809-1878).  They are both buried nearby in Dollens Cemetery.

He had several siblings:
Mary A. Tapp Figg (1835-1861) - buried in Dollens Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana
Martha A. Tapp Parkhust (1838-1893) - buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Samuel Milton Tapp (1840-1881) - buried in Dollens Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana
Sarah Tapp Terhune (1843-1876) - unknown
Wilson T. Tapp (1846-1905) - buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Theodore Tapp (1861-?) - unknown

I found it interesting that when we took a good look at his grave, the stone appears to be almost wrinkled.  I assume that at one point there were some vines or something that had grown all over the stone and changed the texture.

~~~~~
Here is the grave of Richard Thompson Tapp.
Born: September 22, 1813, Virginia
Died: August 16, 1893, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
I have found some confusion concerning his parents and siblings.  I will list what I have found below.  If anyone can clarify, please let me know.
The first listing for his parents and siblings are  William Tapp (1789-1850) and Mary Susan Gibson Tapp (1795-?).  I am unsure as to where they are buried.
He had several siblings:
Sarah Ann Tapp (1815/1816-1887) - buried in Mullikin Cemetery, Nineveh, Johnson County, Indiana (I am not 100% certain about this one, but the time frame and the burial site seem to be correct)
Lucy Jane Tapp (1816-?)  - unknown
William P. Tapp (1818/1819-1897) - buried in Mount Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bethany, Bartholomew County, Indiana
Evan Moore Tapp (1824-?) - unknown
Elizabeth H. Tapp (1826-?) - unknown
Mary A. Tapp (1830-?) - unknown
The second listing for his parents his William Jett Tapp (1755-1823) and Catherina Jemima Hopper Tapp (1757-1836).  They were both born in Culpepper County, Virginia and it looks like they both died there, but I am unsure where they were buried.  She was the daughter of Thomas Hopper (?-?) and Mary Ann Hopper (?-?).  I haven't located any information on their burials.  Thanks for the information, Derry!
Siblings would have been as follows:
Ann Tapp Spillman (1780-1850) - unknown
William Tapp (1788-1823) - unknown
Jemima Tapp (1789-1828) - unknown
Elizabeth Tapp (1791-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
Dolly Tapp (1791-1792) - unknown
Daniel Tapp (1792-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
Armistead Tapp (1785-1854) - unknown
Rebecca Tapp (1793-1850) - unknown
Henry Tapp (1796-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
W. Lewis Tapp (1797-1877) - unknown
Susan Tapp (1799-1861) - unknown
Amelia Tapp (1800-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
Mary Tapp Basye (1800-1880) - buried in Richard Basye Cemetery, Burton. Howard County, Missouri
David Tapp (1802-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
Elijah Adams Tapp (1802-1896) - unknown
Joseph Tapp (1803-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
Eleanor Tapp (1805-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
Mary Ann Tapp (1809-1848) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
Sophia Tapp (1815-?) - unknown (This is an unlikely sibling as he was listed as being born in Potterspury, which is a town in Northern England.  There is no evidence that William and Catherine ever went to England)
So as you can see there are several of these listed that I really don't think are correct.  There would have been no way for William and Catherine to make several trips back and forth to England and have children born in all of these places.  It is very unlikely that this second set of family is correct.  I have an
He was married twice.  His first wife was Sarah Sellars Tapp (1809-1878).  They were married in 1833.  She is buried nearby in Dollens Cemetery.
They had several children:
Mary A. Tapp Figg (1835-1861) - buried in Dollens Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana
Martha A. Tapp Parkhust (1838-1893) - buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Samuel Milton Tapp (1840-1881) - buried in Dollens Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana
Sarah Tapp Terhune (1843-1876) - unknown
Wilson T. Tapp (1846-1905) - buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
John T. Tapp (1851-1870) - buried in Dollens Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana
Theodore Tapp (1861-?) - unknown
His second wife was Nancy Jane Utterback Tapp Langley (1837-1914).  They were married in 1879.  She is buried in Friendship Park Cemetery, Paragon, Morgan County, Indiana.  I don't believe that they had any children.
His obituary states that he died from a severe attack of flux.  I believe that flux means dysentery.
Here we have the grave of Sarah Sellars Tapp.
Born: April 5, 1809, Kentucky
Died: January 10, 1878, Indiana
Her parents were Samuel Sellars (1767-1849) and Sarah "Sally" Ellis Sellars (1783-1856).  He was born in Ireland, while she was born in Kentucky.  They were married on March 20, 1799 in Garrard County, Kentucky and are both buried in Forsyth Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana.
They had several children:
This is the grave of John Walter Terhune.
Born: May 5, 1856, Johnson County, Indiana
Died: October 18, 1879
He was the son of James Terhune (1821-1892) and Eusebia Neville Nay Terhune (1825-1892).  They were married on March 17, 1842 and are both buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana.
He had several siblings:
Thomas Linval Terhune (1844-1903) - buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Asa Garrett Terhune (1846-1898) - buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana (he died of typhoid)
Lucinda Margaret Terhune Schuck (1852-1936) - buried in New South Park Cemetery, Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana
Ermina Addie Terhune Shank (1861-?) - buried in East Hill Cemetery, Morgantown, Morgan County, Indiana
Dillard Webster Terhune (1864-1865) - buried in Dollens Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana
I am unsure as to the name of his wife, but I did find mention of one son:
Dock Terhune (?-1879) - unknown (The obituary states that he was buried in the Bethel Baptist Church on the Three Notch Line.  From what I can tell the Three Notch Line may have been the original road that is now known as State Road 135.)
From what I can gather by the death dates and the date of the obituary for his son, it almost seems as if John and his son were in some sort of accident, one where his son, Dock, died a few days later.
And finally we come to the grave of Martha Vandivier.
Born: April 25, 1848, Johnson County, Indiana
Died: May 6, 1852, Johnson County, Indiana
She was the daughter of John Vandivier (1814-1875) and Herriot Vandivier (1818-1874).  They are both buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana.
She had at least two siblings that I have found:
Austin Vandivier (1839-1842) - buried in Dollens Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana
William Nelson Vandivier (1852-1920) - buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana
Hamner Cemetery
Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Hamner Cemetery in Amity, Johnson County, Indiana.
GPS Coordinates: 39.4143982, -86.0006027
According to the sign, this cemetery was laid out in 1823.  In 1836, John Hamner, Sr, a Revolutionary War Soldier. willed this half acre plot to his descendants.  Additional ground was donated in 1906.  There are 334 interments at this cemetery and, oddly enough, I didn't find any Civil War shield stones.  I did find three Revolutionary War soldiers and some from new wars, though.  I have found in an obituary that this was also referred to as the Hamner-Kennedy Graveyard.
~~~

Our first stop today is at the grave of Thomas Abbett.
Born: 1837
Died: November 18, 1919

He was the son of Elizabeth Warner Abbett (1811-1876/1878) and Thomas Abbett (1797-1849).  She is buried in Hamner Cemetery, while he is buried in Youngs Creek Cemetery, Johnson County, Indiana.

During my research, I have come across some conflicting family information for Thomas.  I found in one family history where he was the son of the aforementioned Elizabeth and Thomas.  The siblings are the ones listed below.  Then in another family history, I found him listed as the son of William Abbett (1802-1852) and Mary Ann "Polly" Wolley Abbett (1801-1850).  They are both buried nearby in Abbett Cemetery, but they are the only two Abbett's listed.  The list of siblings has similarities, but several differences as well.  I will note them both below.

He had several siblings (if his mother was Elizabeth Warner Abbett):
James W. Abbett (1822-1896) - unknown
Juliett "Julia" Abbett Mitchell Hamner (1823-1885) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Mariah Abbett Doan (1828-1862) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
John William Abbett (1831-1903) - buried in Young's Creek Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Hannah Elizabeth Abbett Hamner (1845-1919) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Andrew Jackson Abbott (1846-1924/1927) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

The other siblings he may have had (if his parents were William Abbett and Mary Ann Abbett):
Johnathon T. Abbett (1822-1852) - buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
John William Abbett (1831-1903) - buried in Young's Creek Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Elizabeth Abbett (1835-?) - unknown
Margaret H. Abbett (1841-?) - unknown
Andrew Jackson Abbott (1846-1924/1927) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

As you can see there are a couple of repeats, John William and Andrew Jackson.  I first thought that maybe the father remarried, but the dates intersect too much.  I am not sure which is correct.  If anyone has any information, please let me know.

His wife's name is listed just below his, Martha Jane Heady Abbett.
Born: January 29, 1849, Boone County, Indiana
Died: July 21, 1914

Her parents were Ammon Heady (1810-1893) and Catherine Spencer Heady (1814-1853).  They were married in 1832 and are both buried in Old Union Church Cemetery, Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana.

Martha had several siblings:
Eliza Ann Heady Walter (1831-1880) - buried in Cain Cemetery, Maryville, Nodaway County, Missouri
Rebecca C. Heady (1835-1843) - buried in Old Union Church Cemetery, Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana
Andrew J. Heady (1837-1911) - buried in Old Union Church Cemetery, Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana
Thomas W. Heady (1839-1906) - buried in McCormick Cemetery, Highland Center, Wapello County, Iowa
Richard Van Buren Heady (1841-1909) -buried in Old Union Church Cemetery, Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana (he died from intestinal nephritis)
Imri P. Heady (1843-1926) - buried in Old Union Church Cemetery, Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana
Nicholas C. Heady (1845-1911) - buried in Old Union Church Cemetery, Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana
Elisha F. Heady (1847-1913) - buried in Old Union Church Cemetery, Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana

They had several children:
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Abbett Sheldon/Shelton (1869-1919) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Ethel Abbett (?-?) - unknown
Maude C. Abbett True (1885-1972) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Lida Abbett Beatty (?-?) - unknown
William A. Abbett (1866-1933) - buried in Freeman Cemetery, Edinburgh, Johnson County, Indiana
Ammon H. Abbett (1889-1977) - buried in Ninevah Christian Church Cemetery, Ninevah, Johnson County, Indiana
James W. Abbett (1868-1888) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana (his name is listed at the base of the headstone; he died from a hemorrhage of the lungs)

We now come to the grave of William Boucher.

Born: March 25, 1805/1806, Ross County, Ohio
Died: April 13, 1863, Edinburgh, Johnson County, Indiana

I am unsure as to who his parents were or whether or not he had any siblings.

He has two separate listings on Find-A-Grave, though one has him listed as burial unknown.  I do believe that they are for the same person though.  I have searched family indexes and haven't found anything to the contrary.  I will do my best to get it all listed below.

He was the son of William Bowsher (1769-1848) and Savina/Sabina Smith Bowsher (1771-1826).   William is buried in Old Lutheran Cemetery, Adelphi, Ross County, Ohio, but Savina burial location is unknown.

There are several siblings listed:
Jacob Bowsher (1788-1849) - buried in Old Lutheran Cemetery, Adelphi, Ross County, Ohio
Margaret Rebecca "Becka" Bowsher Reichelderfer Zurmehly Spangler (1789-1877) - buried in Saint Matthew Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio

Isaac Bowsher (1798-1865) - buried in Shawnee Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio
Benjamin Bowsher (1803-1873) - buried in Saint Matthew Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio
Jeremiah Bowsher (1806-1885) - buried in Saint Matthew Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio
Abraham Bowsher (1813-?) - buried in Old Lutheran Cemetery, Adelphi, Ross County, Ohio
Sylvina Bowsher Goode (?-?) - unknown
Susan Bowsher (?-?) - unknown
Levi Bowsher (1823-1887) - buried in Morris Chapel Cemetery, Thacher, Pickaway County, Ohio
Sarah Bowsher Foust (1827-1855) - buried in Saint Matthew Cemetery, Lima, Allen
William Allen Bowsher (1836-1913) - buried in Belleview Cemetery, Adelphi, Ross County, Ohio

It looks like he was married twice.  His first wife was likely Sarah C. Painter Boucher (1813-1856).  She is buried near him in Hamner Cemetery.

They had several children:
Henry Boucher (1832-?) - unknown
Thomas B. Boucher (1834-1911) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Elizabeth Boucher (1836-1873) - buried in Philadelphia Church Cemetery, Greenfield, Hancock County, Indiana
Ephriam/Ephraim Boucher (1838-1911) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
William Boucher (1841-1896) - buried in Smiley Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Abraham Boucher (1843-?) - unknown

Born: unknown
Died: September 1, 1864

She was the wife of William Boucher (1806-1863).  He is buried near her in Hamner Cemetery.

I do not see that they had any children.  She passed away only three years after they were married in 1861 and the year following her husband's death.

We now stop at the grave of Henry Coffelt, Senior.
Born: November 13, 1761, York County, Pennsylvania
Died: November 4, 1836, Johnson County, Indiana

He was the son of Philip Coffelt (1738-1791) and Ellen/Eleanor "Nellie" Ryan Coffelt (1732-1803/1822).  He was born in Germany and she in Ireland. A story that I found states that Eleanor was captured by the Shawnee Indians during the French and Indian War.  After eleven weeks of being their captive, she escaped.  They both passed away in Greene County, Tennessee, but there is no burial information listed for them.

He had several siblings:
John Coffelt (1761-1836) - unknown (possibly Lawrence County, Arkansas)
Daniel Coffelt (1772-1850~) - unknown (possibly Marion County, Tennessee)
James Henry Coffelt (1773-1842~) - unknown (possibly Cole County, Missouri)
Rebecca Coffelt Bible (1780-1850) - unknown (possibly Milam County, Texas)
George Coffelt (1781-?) - unknown
Jacob Coffelt (1782-1827) - unknown (Monroe County, Tennessee)
Sarah Coffelt (1784-?) - unknown

He was married to Barbara/Barbary Fare Coffelt (1778-1849).  She is buried next to him in Hamner Cemetery.

Daniel Coffelt (1810-1890) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Thomas R. Coffelt (1813-1873) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

Daniel Coffelt (1810-1890) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Jacob Coffelt (1818-1885) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana (his biography has his birth year as 1800)

Here is one of three infant Coffelt graves.
Born: unknown
Died: April 10, 1823.

She was the 14 day old infant daughter of Elizabeth Coffelt (1802-1849) and Thomas R. Coffelt (1813-1873).  They are both buried nearby.

She had two other infant siblings:
Infant Daughter Coffelt (1840-1840) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Infant Son Coffelt (?-1833) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana.

I am unsure of any other relations.

Born: unknown
Died: November 21, 1833

He was the 19 day old infant daughter of Elizabeth Coffelt (1802-1849) and Thomas R. Coffelt (1813-1873).  They are both buried nearby.

She had two other infant siblings:
Infant Daughter Coffelt (?-1823) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Infant Daughter Coffelt (1840-1840) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

This is the last of the Infant Coffelt graves.
Born: 1840
Died: 1840

She was the newborn infant daughter of Elizabeth Coffelt (1802-1849) and Thomas R. Coffelt (1813-1873).  They are both buried nearby.

She had two other infant siblings:
Infant Daughter Coffelt (1840-1840) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Infant Daughter Coffelt (1840-1840) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

She only has one date and likely probably died at birth.

The infant Coffelt graves are all similar in that they are one of the few in the cemetery to retain the footstone.  All of set into a slab with the headstone at the top and the footstone at the base.  I do not know if that is original or recent.

Here is the grave of Jacob Coffelt.
Born: September 18, 1818
Died: March 5, 1885

He was the son of Henry Coffelt, Senior (1761-1836) and Barbara/Barbary Fare Coffelt (1778-1849).  They are both buried in Hamner Cemetery nearby.

He had at least two siblings that I have found:
Henry Coffelt (1807-1835) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Jacob Coffelt (1818-1885) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana (his biography has his birth year as 1800)

A biography of him that I found had his birth year listed as 1800, though it clearly states 1818 on the headstone.

Here we have the grave of Rachel C. Brown Coffelt.
Born: January 12, 1815, Ashe County, North Carolina
Died: January 4, 1892, Johnson County, Indiana

I am unsure who her parents were or the names of any of her siblings.

She was the second wife of Jacob Coffelt (1818-1885).  They were married on August 15, 1866.  He is buried near her in Hamner Cemetery.

I haven't found the names of any children.

John Hamner, Jr. (1810-1889) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
George Hamner (1815-?) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

She was the first wife of Jacob Coffelt (1818-1885).  Her name is shown on one side of the headstone, while his second wife's is listed opposite of hers on the same stone.

I haven't found any names of children.

We now stop at the grave of Martha Hobson Doan.
Born: December 20, 1778, Chatham County, North Carolina
Died: August 18, 1835, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

She was the daughter of William Hobson (1739-1814) and Sarah William Hobson (1742-1818).  They are both likely buried in the Dover Friends Cemetery in Clinton County, Ohio.  I say likely because there are no headstones but they are on the Monthly Meeting of the Quakers for the Dover area.

She had several siblings:
William Hobson (1763-?) - unknown
Mary Hobson (1765-1835) - unknown
Joseph Hobson (1768-1825) - unknown
Samuel Hobson (1771-1842) - unknown
Johnathon Hobson (1773-1773) - unknown

Deborah Hobson (1784-1852) - unknown
Rachel Hobson (1787-1874) - unknown
George H. Hobson (1790-1848) - buried in Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, Andrew county, Missouri

She was married to Thomas Doan (1781-1851) on November 1802.  It was said that they were disowned for marrying out of unity.  I assume that they must have married outside their religion. (NOTE: Her parents were Quakers.)  After that they moved to Ohio.  They are listed in the membership list for a Methodist Episcopal Church.  He is buried near her in Hamner Cemetery.

They had several children:
John Vestal Doan (1806-?) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Sarah Doan Earlywine (1807-1868) - buried in Robert Chapel Cemetery, Flat Rock, Shelby County, Indiana

We now stop at the grave of Reverend Thomas Doan.
Born: July 19, 1781, Cane Creek, Chatham County, North Carolina
Died: August 25, 1851, Bartholomew County, Indiana

He was the son of Joseph Doan (1759-1838) and Jemima Vestal Doan (1762-1832).  They were married in 1780 and are both buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Clinton County, Ohio.

Jacob Doan (1801-1875) - buried in Mormon Cemetery, Lee County, Illinois
Rachel Doan Haile (1803-1880) - burial is listed as unknown
Elisha Doan (1806-1882) - burial is listed as unknown
Mary Doan (1809-1821) - burial is listed as unknown

He was married to Martha Hobson Doan (1778-1835) on November 1802.  It was said that they were disowned for marrying out of unity.  I assume that they must have married outside their religion. (NOTE: Their parents were Quakers.)  After that they moved to Ohio.  They are listed in the membership list for a Methodist Episcopal Church.  He is buried near her in Hamner Cemetery.

Elias Doan (1814-1880) - buried in Big Grove Cemetery, Big Grove Cemetery, Benton County, Iowa

Thomas was a minister for the Methodist Church, probably the same one that they were members of.  He was known as a Pioneer Circuit Riding Minister.

We now stop at the grave of Nancy Lash Hamner.
Born: November 23, 1814, Kentucky
Died: June 20, 1849, Johnson County, Indiana

She was the daughter of Joseph Lash (?-?) and Mary Lash (?-?).  I found a Mary Lash buried in Hamner Cemetery, but she was married to James.  Not sure if this is right Lash family or not.  It seems that it would be, but not positive.

She was married to John Hamner (1810-1889).  They were married in either 1832 or 1322 and he is shown on the opposite side of the monument.

They had a total of six children:
James Hamner (1834-1849) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Maria/Mariah J. Hamner Durbin (1836-1895) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Mary Ann Hamner Crane (1838-1854) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Samuel Hamner (1842-1915) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
John H. Hamner (1845-1853) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

~~~~
Here is the grave of John Hamner.
Born: February 5, 1810, Mercer County, Kentucky
Died: April 12, 1889, Johnson County, Indiana
He was the son of John Hamner, Senior (1761-1836) and Mary Neubary Wholberg Hamner (1770-1842).  They were both born in Virginia and both are buried in Hamner Cemetery nearby.  I have found several last name variations for Mary: Neubary (which is listed in a small biography about John), Wholberg (which is listed in an obituary for John), Whoberry (which was found in a family history) and Hobbry (which was also found in a family history).
He had seven or eight siblings.  The information is a little out of sorts:
James Hamner (1793-1880) - buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa
Ann Hamner Noel (1795-?) - unknown
Rebecca Hamner Colfelt/Coffelt (1797-1866) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Sarah Hamner (1799-?) - unknown
Elizabeth Hamner Colfelt/Coffelt (1802-1849) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Mary Hamner Rogers (1808-1880) - unknown
George Hamner (1815-?) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
He was married twice, first to Nancy Lash Hamner (1814-1849) in 1833.  Her name is listed on one of the sides of the monument.  She also has another headstone leaning up against it, but it is broken and in disrepair.
They had six children:
James Hamner (1834-1849) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Maria/Mariah J. Hamner Durbin (1836-1895) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Mary Ann Hamner Crane (1838-1854) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Samuel Hamner (1842-1915) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
John H. Hamner (1845-1853) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Anna Hamner Jamison (1866-1901) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana (died of stomach cancer) (this is a possibility, but I am not 100% of this connection)
After Nancy passed, he married a second time to Julia Abbett Mitchell Hamner (1823-1885).  Her name is on the side opposite Nancy.
They had no children.
~~~

Here is the grave of Julia Abbett Mitchell Hamner.
Born: September 9, 1823
Died: September 8, 1885

She was the daughter of Thomas Abbett (1797-1849), who is buried in Youngs Creek Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana.  As for her mother, all of the links that I can find show that her mother is Elizabeth Warner Hamner (1811-1876).  She is buried nearby in Hamner Cemetery, but this would have made her only 12 years old when Julia was born.  I am concerned about this connection, but it's the only one that I have found so far.

She would have had several siblings:
James W. Abbett (1822-1896) - unknown
Mariah Abbett Doan (1828-1862) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
John William Abbett (1831-1903) - buried in Young's Creek Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana
Hannah Elizabeth Abbett Hamner (1845-1919) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Andrew Jackson Abbott (1846-1924-1927) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

She was married twice.  Her first husband was Thomas Mitchell (?-1846).  They were married on December 3, 1840 in Johnson County, Indiana.  I haven't located his burial site.

They had one child:
Mrs. Wilson Henderson (?-?) - unknown

Her second husband was John Hamner (1810-1889).   They were married on September 1, 1850 in Johnson County.  He is buried with her, his name on one of the other sides of the monument.  They did not have any children.

This is the grave of John Hamner, Sr.
Born: January 2, 1761, Mecklenburg County, Virginia
Died: October 28, 1836, Johnson County, Indiana

He was the son of James Hamner (1725/1733-1792) and Sarah Baskerville Hamner (1735-?).  Both were buried in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.  I haven't located information that points to their burial locations.

He had six siblings, though I haven't got names for all of them:
Sally Hamner Pully (1751-?) - unknown
Elizabeth Hamner Toone (?-?) - unknown
Henry Hamner (1759-1844) - unknown
Mary Hamner (1759-?) - unknown
Rebekah Hamner Burton (1765-1815) - buried in James A. Burton Family Cemetery, Masonville, Daviess County, Kentucky
George Baskerville Hamner (1766-?) - unknown

He was married first to Mary "Molly" Neubary Wholberg Hamner (1770-1842).  They were both born in Virginia and were married on December 22, 1790 in Mecklendburg County, Virginia.  They both are buried in Hamner Cemetery nearby.  I have found several last name variations for Mary: Neubary (which is listed in a small biography about John), Wholberg (which is listed in an obituary for John), Whoberry (which was found in a family history) and Hobbry (which was also found in a family history).

I have found conflicting information stating that they had nine children, but other places state eight children.  I only have names for eight at this time:
James Hamner (1793-1880) - buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa
Ann Hamner Noel (1795-?) - unknown
Rebecca Hamner Colfelt/Coffelt (1797-1866) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Sarah Hamner (1799-?) - unknown
Elizabeth Hamner Colfelt/Coffelt (1802-1849) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
Mary Hamner Rogers (1808-1880) - unknown
John Hamner, Jr. (1810-1889) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana
George Hamner (1815-?) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

I have also found that he may have been married a second time as his pension was filed by his widow.  Her name was listed as Sarah Hamner.  That was dated November 7, 1843 in Boyle County, Kentucky.

John Hamner, Sr. served in the Revolutionary War as a Private in Marberry's Company, Burrell's Regiment, Virginia Troops.  I did find mention of a Burrell's Regiment in the Revolutionary War Muster Rolls as having been active from 1776-1777, though I have also found it in connection to Connecticut.  It's a little difficult to find information as I have searched through Revolutionary War Roster for Virginia and cannot find mention of John Hamner.

He was the infant son of Amos H. Durbin (1827-1898) and Mariah Jane Hamner Durbin (1836-1895).  They are both buried nearby in Hamner Cemetery.  The date of birth that I found in a family genealogy conflicts with the age on the headstone of 2 months.

He had at least one siblings:
William Thomas Boucher (1865-1869) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana.

I struggled with this headstone as it appears to say Edda J. on it, but I could find no listing anywhere for an Edda J.

This is the grave of Margaret Adams Gillcrees.
Born: November 1, 1761
Died: August 18, 1827

I am not sure who her parents were as I haven't found any reference to them or to any siblings.

She was the wife of Robert Gillcrees, Sr. (1757-1813).  He was born in either Scotland or Virginia, according to a family history.  He and Margaret were married on April 4, 1791 in Nelson County, Kentucky.  He is buried in Peugh Cemetery, Washington County, Indiana.  There is a memorial stone there that has Margaret's name on it, though she is not buried there.  It should also be noted that her last name is spelled Gilchrist on this stone.

They had several children:
Nancy Gilchrist Young (1792-1872) - buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, Benton County, Iowa
William Gillcrees (1794-1872) - buried in Smith Cemetery, Vigo County, Indiana (though there is also thought that he was buried in Hull Cemetery, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.  I would be more inclined to go with the first listing as there is a photo of that headstone)
James Gillcrees (1795-1873) - buried in Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hopewell, Johnson County, Indiana
Robert Gilchrist (1797-1874) - buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, Benton County, Iowa

Born: August 4, 1770, Mecklenburg County, Virginia
Died: November 14, 1842

She was the daughter of Jacob Whoberry (?-?) and Elizabeth Whoberry (?-?).  I have found no information about either of them.  With the variations in last names, it makes it extremely hard to find anything.

She was married to John Hamner, Sr. (1761-1836) and were married on December 22, 1790 in Mecklendburg County, Virginia.  He is buried in Hamner Cemetery near her.

I have found several last name variations for Mary: Neubary (which is listed in a small biography about John), Wholberg (which is listed in an obituary for John), Whoberry (which was found in a family history) and Hobbry (which was also found in a family history).

Married - and children (four), names unknown"

In the Historical Sketch of Johnson County, it is noted that Adam Lash arrived in Nineveh Township in 1822 along with several others.

I also found in a copy of the Pennsylvania Archives, a signed statement by Adam Lash, dated September 29, 1777, where he denounces King George the Third.

I do know the name of one of his children:
Corporal James Lash (1791-1839) - buried in Hamner Cemetery, Amity, Johnson County, Indiana

Outside of this information, I haven't found anything else for him.  He seems to have lived out his life without anyone noticing.
