Richland Cemetery Re-Visit

We decided to take another trip to Richland Cemetery on Easter Sunday after being unable to find another cemetery out in that area.

Our original purpose in stopping at this cemetery was to locate the grave of Moses Hall, a Revolutionary War Veteran, which we did find but it was in such a sad state of disrepair I didn't bother with any pictures beyond the ones that I already had.  So, while we were there, we decided to go ahead and take a walk around before heading back into town.

Our first stop is at the grave of Nancy Agnes Snoddy Hall.

Born: April 5, 1763, Rowan County, North Carolina
Died: April 14, 1855, Monroe County, Indiana

She was the wife of Moses Hall (1760-1846).  He was a Revolutionary War Veteran and is buried next to her in Richland Cemetery.

They had many children:
William Hall (1793-1819) - unknown
Samuel Snoddy Hall (1796-1885) - buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
Elizabeth Hall (1798-1863) - unknown
Moses Hall (1802-1877) - buried in Richland Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
Nancy Hall (1802-1819) - unknown
Malinda Hall (1805-1819) - unknown

Here we have the grave of Constance Bennington Nesbit.

Born: July 20, 1767, Harford County, Maryland
Died: October 14, 1854

She was the daughter of William Bennington (?-?) and Isabella Wilson Bennington (?-?).  I am unsure as to where they are buried.

She was married to Thomas Byron Nesbit (1769-1861) on December 14, 1790 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.  He is buried near her in Richland Cemetery.

They had eight children:
Susannah Nesbit Mathers (1791-1873) - buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
Jane Nesbit Mathers (1793-1885) - buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
William Nesbit (?-?) - unknown
Rachel Nesbit Foster (1799-1874) - buried in Richland Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
John Nesbit (?-?) - unknown
Davd Nesbit (?-?) - unknown
Thomas Nesbit, Jr. (1805-1873) - buried in Slippery Point Cemetery, Jefferson County, Indiana.
Sarah Nesbit (?-?) - unknown

Here we have the grave of Thomas Byron Nesbit.

Born: April 10, 1769, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
Died: September 12, 1861, Monroe County, Indiana

His parents names are unknown, but we do know that his father was killed by Indians and died in Kentucky.

He was married to Constance Bennington Nesbit (1767-1854) on December 14, 1790 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.

They had eight children:
Susannah Nesbit Mathers (1791-1873) - buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
Jane Nesbit Mathers (1793-1885) - buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
William Nesbit (?-?) - unknown
Rachel Nesbit Foster (1799-1874) - buried in Richland Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.
John Nesbit (?-?) - unknown
Davd Nesbit (?-?) - unknown

They came to Indiana from Kentucky, purchasing land in Monroe County on Richland Creek.  Their log cabin home was used for church services until the church was built in 1838.

Our final stop is at this headstone.  The name is shown as Catharine, but the stone is broken and in need of repair.  The only Catharine I can find in the interment records that doesn't have a corresponding headstone is Catherine Burks McHaley (1840-1863).  I am not sure if this is the same person or not.  

Mostly, I took this picture because of the headstone imagery.  I have seen a hand with the finger pointing up numerous times.  It means "Going Home".  But I have not seen one where the finger is pointing up toward a crown.  

Hopefully, one day someone will repair the headstone and I will be able to determine who it belongs to.
