McKinney Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at McKinney Cemetery in Brown County, Indiana.

GPS Coordinates: 39.0564, -86.1539

McKinney Cemetery is set back in the woods off of McKinney Cemetery Road in Brown County, Indiana.  This is a small family cemetery with just under 80 interments.  I believe that it is still in use as I saw some newer graves and there is room for many more.  It was raining the day that we stopped to take a look around, which made it a lovely, bright green setting.

~~~~~~~~~~
Our first stop is at the grave of young Florence Dunlap.
Born: July 8, 1896
Died: August 29, 1897
She was the infant daughter of Charles L. Dunlap (1875-?) and his first wife Martha J. McKinney Dunlap Wiley (1874-1941).  They were married in 1895.  She is buried in McKinney Cemetery.  Charles has a headstone in Garland Brook Cemetery, but his death date is not listed on the headstone.  He was married twice after Martha and his name is listed on his second wife's headstone.  I am not sure if he is really buried there as his third wife is buried in Connersville.
Florence had at least one other sibling:
James Herbert Dunlap (1899-1963) - buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Marion County, Indiana
She is listed on the same headstone as Flora Alice McKinney.  I can only assume that this was a cost saving effort as they have different parents.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is the grave for Belva C. Hedrick.

Born: May 5, 1925, Brown County, Indiana
Died: May 23, 1925, Brown County, Indiana

He was the infant son of Ralph Hedrick (1894-1972) and Brunell Moore Hedrick (1902-1978).    They are both buried nearby in McKinney Cemetery.

Had he survived he would have had at least one other sibling:
Robert Eugene Hedrick (1927-1996) - buried in McKinney Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana (he was a veteran of World War II)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here we have a Hedrick gravestone with several names.
The first is for Ralph K. Hedrick.
I am not going to list him with this burial as he is not buried with this stone.  He is buried nearby with his second wife, Brunell Moore Hedrick.
His first wife, Ruby Carmichael Hedrick is next on the stone.
Born: December 19, 1901
Died: September 13, 1921
She was the first wife of Ralph K. Hedrick (1894-1972). He is buried nearby with his second wife, Brunell Moore Hedrick (1902-1978),  in McKinney Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
The last name on the headstone is that of Thelma Irene Hedrick.
Born: August 26, 1921
Died: October 6, 1921
She was the infant daughter of Ralph K. Hedrick (1894-1972) and his first wife, Ruby Carmichael Hedrick (1901-1921).  She passed away less than a month after her mother, Ruby.  It is surmised that Ruby probably died from complications of childbirth.
Chester Earl Shepherd (1899-1954) - buried in Fairview Cemetery, Jackson County, Indiana
Blanch L. Shepherd Bond (1905-1937) - buried in Mount Zion Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana
He was married to Elsie McKinney Shepherd, who name is listed below his.
Born: February 10, 1894
Died: April 27, 1903
She was the newborn daughter of Robert E. McKinney (1875-1952) and Dora I. Lutes McKinney (1871-1922).
He had a few siblings:
Susan Catharine McKinney Hedrick (1869-1964) - buried in McKinney Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana
Emma M. McKinney (1877-1896) - buried in McKinney Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana
Inzie M. McKinney (1888-1908) - buried in McKinney Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana
His wife's name was Hattie F. Holmes McKinney (?-?).  I am unsure as to where she is buried.
They had one child that I have been able to find:
Eunice McKinney Meyers (1902-1920) - buried in McKinney Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana
~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is a headstone with multiple names on it.  I only took a picture of the one side as far as I have been able to find.

First we have Emma M. McKinney.

Born: September 23, 1877
Died: December 31, 1896

Just under her name is that of Inzie M. McKinney.

They were the daughters of Archibald R. McKinney (1849-1890) and Rebecca Ann Shultz McKinney (1850-1927).  Their names are listed on the opposite side of the headstone.
