Garrard Chapel Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Garrard Chapel Cemetery in Owen County, Indiana.

We stumbled upon this cemetery while driving out to a Renn Faire in Bowling Green, Clay County, Indiana and decided to stop on our way back home as prowling through the cemetery was way more entertaining than the Renn Faire had been.

Unfortunately, I didn't remember to take an establishing shot if the cemetery while we were there.  It is located just off of State Road 46, GPS Coordinates: 39.34167, -86.90223.  It is located on a hill, just behind the church.

There are 177 listed memorials at this cemetery, with more plots available as it does appear to be a current cemetery, likely for the parishoners.  The church was founded in 1864 as a Presbyterian Church, but seems to be a nondenominational one now.  I assume that the cemetery was probably founded around the same time.  This church also runs a huge food pantry.  If you live in Owen County, Indiana and need food assistance, please visit their Facebook page.

Stwalley-Hicks Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Stwalley-Hicks Cemetery in Vandalia, Owen County, Indiana.

GPS Coordinates: 39.31902, -86.87132

We stopped at this cemetery the day before my birthday, finding it mostly by accident while travelling down St. Rd 46.  It is a small cemetery with 45 memorials.  There is a short drive that splits the cemetery in two.  The left hand side seems to be the older section, while there are a few newer graves on the right side.  It appears to be a current cemetery as there is a lot of empty space on the right hand side.

The sign states that it was established on July 9, 1860.  I am not sure if there was a church here at any point or if this has always been a small family cemetery.
