Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is a quick re-visit to Lucas Cemetery. I got an email requested some photos of Veteran's headstones since there was a long list of burials and a short list of headstones. My daughter and I decided to head that way since it isn't too far from where we live.
I photographed all of the veteran's headstones that I could find, which weren't as many as I had hoped. I also snagged a couple of additional headstone photos that I didn't remember from our previous trip, though that was nine years ago and I have a terrible memory.
Lucas Cemetery is an active cemetery located in Monroe County, Indiana just off of Lucas Road. You can check out my last post on this cemetery here.

He was the son of John Crafton (1817-1854) and an unknown mother. He is buried nearby in Lucas Cemetery.

He served in the Civil War in Company C of the 33rd Indiana Infantry.
He was married in 1874 to Sarah Jane Lake Crafton (1849-1918). She is buried near him in Lucas Cemetery.
They had eight children:

Lawrence died from complications of an amputation. He had been in the employee of the Woolery Stone Mill, but developed a disease which necessitated an amputation. Unfortunately, he did not survive.

This grave is curious as it is clearly hand carved with no information at all on it.
We now come to the grave of John "Johny" W. Ridge.
The opposite side of the stone is carved with P.C. Vaught, also with no information, though this appears to be carved with tools in a more professional way.
Who they are may never be known.

He was the son of David Ridge (1805-?) and an unknown mother. His father was born in North Carolina, but I can find no burial information for him.
Johny Ridge was a veteran of the Civil War having served as a Private of Company F, 8th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment.
He was married to Martha E. Baugh Ridge, who name is listed next to him on the headstone.

She was the daughter of William Baugh (1815-1880) and Priscilla Abel Baugh (1823-1880). They were married on March 13, 1838 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. They are said to have been lost at sea, but I am not sure of the story behind that and haven't found anything to point what the story would be.

His second wife, whom he married on June 5, 1915, was Susan Mary Allen Sherrill Speer Pitcher Fender Deckard Martin (1863-1930). She is buried in Judah Church of Christ Cemetery in Judah, Lawrence County, Indiana.
John Fender died just a few weeks after he and Susan were married when he was shot by his neighbor. The dispute was over some bees belonging to John that had made a hive on a partition fence that separated the two properties.
