Oak Ridge Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstone is at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Helmsburg, Brown County, Indiana.

We visited this small church in Brown County on July 19, 2015.  We actually ended up here twice, the second time while looking for an entirely different cemetery.  This cemetery is well taken care of and appears to still be in use.  At this time, there were just around 375 interments.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our first stop today is at the grave of David Frownfelter.
Born: April 29, 1846
Died: May 6, 1933
He was married to Lucinda Frownfelter (1849-1933).  Her name is listed on the larger headstone just behind his Civil War Shield stone.
Together they had at least one child:
Efra Harold Frounfelter (1890-1970) - buried in Hilldale Cemetery, Morgan County, Indiana.
He served in the Civil War in the 9th Indiana Cavalry, Company L.
It is noted that on his large headstone that he shares with his wife, his name is spelled "Frownfelter".
Here we have the grave of Joseph Hughes.
Born: August 31, 1844
Died: August 14, 1914
Died: 1914
He served in the 62nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
There are a number of symbols carved into his headstone.  There is an open book on the top of his grave.  This generally symbolizes his faith.  There is a dove flying above the open gates of heaven on the face of his headstone.
Our final stop is at the grave of James Edgar Snider.
Born:  July 1871, Indiana
Died: March 31, 1872, Indiana
Greenlawn Cemetery
Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville, Indiana.
This cemetery is located in downtown Nashville, just off of Main Street.  I went to high school in Nashville and never even realized this cemetery was here.  We visited this cemetery on July 05, 2015.  It is nice, well kept cemetery that is still active.  The most notable part is the iron fenced plot for the Moberly family.  I am not sure if this is a Seward iron fence or not.
Stephen had a very busy life.  He served in the Spanish American War in June of 1846 in the 3rd Indiana Volunteers, Company E.  under the command of Captain James Taggart who was killed at the Battle of Buena Vista, Mexico.  Stephen later married his former Captain's daughter.
From 1856-1860, he served as Sheriff in Brown County, but left that post in 1861 to enlist in the Civil War.  He served from July 1861 to April 1864 in the 22nd Indiana Infantry, Company E as a second lieutenant.  He resigned from his commission after having been part of the battles of Pea Ridge, Stone River, and Mission Ridge to name a few.
Her stone is placed inside of one of the iron fenced plots with the grave of George Stone (1850-1886).  I am not sure if her parents were George Stone and Caroline Hamblen Stone Tinkey (1861-1942).  I can only assume that she was his daughter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is a fenced plot for the Moberly Family.

The grave is very worn and hard to read on this side, so I can't make out the birth and death dates.

He is the husband of Angeline Moberly (1823-1899) and the father of John T. Moberly (1843-1865).  Their names are carved on the other sides of the monument.

East Hill Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown, Indiana.

This is the largest cemetery in Morgan County and is located in Morgantown proper just off of St. Rd. 135.  The oldest section of the cemetery is right up front where there had been two huge beech trees.  Unfortunately, during a large storm this last spring, one of them fell.  Luckily, however, it missed hitting any of the graves.  We visited this cemetery on July 19, 2015.  Kinda funny that it took me this long to get around to visiting it since I used to live less than 5 miles from it for several years.
