Carmel Ridge Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Carmel Ridge Cemetery in Brown County, Indiana.

We visited this cemetery on July 19, 2015.  It is small and only has about 50 interments.  It is situated off the side of Carmel Ridge Road in Brown County not too far from Helmsburg.  I lived for many years on Carmel Ridge Road and never realized this cemetery was there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our first stop is at the grave of Almenia H. Elmina Abbey Davis.
Born: September 5, 1845, Brown County, Indiana
Died: January 20, 1889
She was the daughter of James Pearl Abbey (1802-1854) and Mary Hobbs Abbey (1804-1883).  Her mother was buried in Fleener Cemetery, Fruitdale, Brown County, Indiana, but I am not sure where her father was buried.
She had several siblings, but I have only found reference to one so far:
Amelia Abbey (?-?) - unknown
Aramanta Abbey (?-?) - unknown
Adella Abbey (?-?) - buried in Fleener Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
Amanda Abbey (?-?) - unknown
Cyrus Abbey (?-?) - unknown
Levi Abbey (?-?) - unknown
Martin Van Buren Abbey (?-?) - unknown
Anna Eliza Abbey (?-?) - unknown
She was married to Robert Samuel Davis (1842-1902).  He is buried in Carmel Ridge Cemetery near her.
They had at least three children:
Mary Ann Nettie Davis Smith (1868-1928) - buried in Boggstown Cemetery, Shelby County, Indiana.
George A. W. Davis (1869-1891) - buried in Carmel Ridge Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
Robert B. Davis (1883-1931) - buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelby County, Indiana.
Here is the grave of George W. Davis.
Born: April 24, 1820
Died: April 5, 1895
He was married to Mary Benson Davis (1821-1894).  I believe that her name is carved into the opposite side of the tombstone.
They had at least one child:
Robert Samuel Davis (1842-1902) - buried in Carmel Ridge Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
It is faded and hard to tell, but there is a Freemason symbol above his name.
We now stop at the grave of George A. W. Davis.
Born: December 1869
Died: November 22, 1891
He was the son of Robert Samuel Davis (1842-1902) and Almenia H. Abbey Davis (1845-1889).  Both are buried in Carmel Ridge Cemetery.
He had at least two siblings:
Mary Ann Nettie Davis Smith (1868-1928) - buried in Boggstown Cemetery, Shelby County, Indiana.
Here we have the grave of Catharine Scripter Geary.
Born: September 16, 1849
Died: June 7, 1877
She was the wife of Robert Geary (?-?).  I unsure as to where he is buried.
There is a lovely rose carved into the top of her headstone.  This generally symbolizes beauty.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is the grave of Mery J. Goodnight.

Born: April 1861
Died: October 18, 1899

She was the wife of G.T. Goodnight (?-?).  I am unsure as to where he is buried.

The reverse side of the stone has the inscription "Twins - Babies of G.T. Goodnight - 1899".  With the death date of the babies, it would be assumed that Mery died in childbirth.

This is the grave of Malinda Ritchie Johnson.

Born: December 22, 1797
Died: September 17, 1877

She was the wife of Bartimus Johnson (?-?).  I am unsure as to where he is buried, but it was probably in Johnson County as that is where he and Malinda lived.

They  had several children:
Mitchell Johnson (?-?) - unknown (as a note, he served in the Civil War).
John Johnson (?-?)unknown (as a note, he served in the Civil War and was wounded at the battle of Perryville, Kentucky).
Nancy Johnson (?-?) - unknown

Born: 1826
Died: July 10, 1892

He shares a headstone with Samuel Reichard (1819-1898) and Mary Jane Reichard (1822-1889).  This would lead me to believe that he may have been Samuel's brother since the birth date is too close to be a child.

His parents were John Reichard (1790-1849) and Elisabeth Wineche Reichard (1792-1843).  They are both buried in Pyrmont Cemetery, Pyrmont, Montgomery County, Ohio, but his father's headstone is gone.
