Bear Creek Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Bear Creek Cemetery in Trevlac, Brown County, Indiana.

We visited this beautiful country church and cemetery on July 19, 2015.  It is set back in the woods of Brown County, Indiana in the rural area of Trevlac.  There are about 330 interments with the oldest section of the cemetery being in the shade of the trees.  I noticed that most of the older stones are in very good condition.  There is a large parking area at the church, but there is also a gravel drive that leads up into the cemetery itself.

Our first stop is at the grave of Samuel Branstetter.

Born: 1845
Died: June 30, 1845

He was the infant son of Daniel Brandstetter (1815-1886) and Rebecca Brandstetter (1821-1875).  They are both buried at Bear Creek Cemetery.  I noted that on their graves, his father's name is spelled "Brandstetter" while his mother's name is spelled "Branstetter".

He had at least three siblings:
John Branstetter (1843-1864) - buried in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
Mary Ann Branstetter McLary (1847-1880) - buried in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
Sarah Branstetter Warford (1856-1907) - buried in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.

Born: October 24, 1815
Died: March 9, 1886

He was married twice, his first wife being Rebecca Brandstetter (1821-1875).  She is buried near him in Bear Creek Cemetery.

Together they had four children:

Samuel Branstetter (1845-1845) - buried in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
Mary Ann Branstetter McLary (1847-1880) - buried in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.
Sarah Branstetter Warford (1856-1907) - buried in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.

His second wife was Mary Ann Fleener Brock (1820-1916).  She is buried in the Brock Cemetery in Unionville, Monroe County, Indiana.  They had no children.

Sarah Branstetter Warford (1856-1907) - buried in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brown County, Indiana.

I did notice on her headstone that her name is spelled "Branstetter".  There is also a very nice carving of a hand holding an open book.  She was very likely very devoted to her faith.

There is also a John M. Coonfield (1795-1840) buried here. I am not sure if this is a relation of his or not.
