Covenanter Cemetery Re-Visit

We had time on Saturday, so we decided to re-visit Covenanter Cemetery in town.  Since our last visit, a car had driven into the side wall and inflicted damage to one of the monuments.  But it has since been repaired.

Our first stop is at the grave of Rebecca R. Shaw Ewing.

Born: 1829
Died: April 13, 1892

She was the wife of William Curry Ewing (1827-1885) whose name is shown on the other side of the headstone.  I am unsure if their had any children.

Her obituary shows that she died of La Grippe.

Here we have the grave of James Faris.

Here we have the grave of Martha Small Fullerton.

Born: May 2, 1781
Died: January 2, 1873

She was the wife of Robert Fullerton (1781-1838).  He is buried next to her in Covenanter Cemetery.

They had at least two children:
Rachel Russell (1821-1902) - buried in Covenanter Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana
John M. Fullerton (1824-1839) - buried in Covenanter Cemetery. Monroe County, Indiana

There is an inscription that is of interest.  It states:
"Gone to Rest
In Memory of Martha
Relict of the late
Robert Fullerton
Died
Jan 2 1873
Aged 91 yrs
& 8 ms"

Relict is a term for a widow who had not remarried before her death. It was a popular term from the 17th and 18th centuries.

He had at least one brother, but I have not found who his parents were:

They had seven children:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the grave of Jane McCaughan.
Born: May 17, ?
Died: June 24, 1856
She may have been the wife of Daniel McCaughan, but it is hard to make out the carving above his name.  I could not find a Daniel McCaughan buried in Covenanter Cemetery.
Here we have the grave of Thomas Moore.
Born: 1790
Died: August 17, 1915
He was a soldier in the Civil War, serving in Company E in the 117th Indiana Infantry.  There is a date at the bottom of the stone of September 14, 1827.  I believe that this may actually be his birthdate, but I am not sure.
