Kentucky Ridge Cemetery

Today's A Walk Through the Tombstones is at the lovely Kentucky Ridge Cemetery in Doans, Greene County, Indiana.

GPS Coordinates: 38.9192009, -86.8039017

This cemetery is also known as Pleasant Kentucky Ridge Cemetery and Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.  It was established in 1854 and has under 750 interments.  It is an active cemetery and has an active church attached to it.

It is a lovely little white Baptist Church, which looks to be a one room wooden structure.  I am not sure when the building was built, but the congregation was established in 1843.  There is a Facebook page for them.

She was daughter of Elza Riley (1806-1878) and Ann Riley (1829-1889).  They are both buried in Kentucky Ridge Cemetery near each other.  At some point before his death, he was said to have become of unsound mind and was taken away to an insane asylum in Indianapolis.  It was thought that he would recover, but his condition became dangerous and he died a few days later.

He was the son of James Corbin (1793-1875) and Sarah Hannah Bivens Corbin (1796-1889).  They are both buried in Kentucky Ridge Cemetery with each other.  It is said that James last name is really Fones and that his family was killed in an Indian Raid.  He was adopted by Rawley and Sarah Corbin.

Thomas Corliss Corbin (?-1884) - buried in Salem Cemetery, Martin County, Indiana
