Chapel Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Chapel Cemetery in Brick Chapel, Putnam County, Indiana.

GPS Coordinates: 39.7124596, -86.8679886

There is a large brick entrance to the cemetery with a plaque that says that the cemetery was established in 1886, which the above sign says that it was established in 1812.  I know that this cemetery has two different names, Chapel Cemetery and Brick Chapel Cemetery, so I am wondering if the date of 1886 has more to do with the Brick Chapel Cemetery where the newer graves are.

This is an active cemetery with just over 2,700 interments.  The oldest dates back to the early 1800s and is for a Revolutionary Soldier.

Our first stop is at the grave of Alice Hattie Wilkinson.
Born: May 20, 1879, Bainbridge, Putnam County, Indiana
Died: July 15, 1880, Bainbridge, Putnam County, Indiana

She was the infant daughter of Jehu Wilkinson (1836-1913) and Louisa Belle Fyffe Wilkinson (1844-1880). They were married on June 20, 1866.  She was his first wife.  Louisa is buried in Chapel Cemetery nearby, while it is not listed in the cemetery records that Jehu is buried here, it would make sense as a portion of his family is buried here.  A record states that he and Louisa share a monument.

Had she survived, she would have had several siblings:
Leinore Wilkinson Fyffe (1867-1895) - buried in Chapel Cemetery, Brick Chapel, Putnam County, Indiana
Wilbur T.E. Wilkinson (1869-1877) - buried in Chapel Cemetery, Brick Chapel, Putnam County, Indiana
Carl Hixson Wilkinson (1870-1961) - buried in Chapel Cemetery, Brick Chapel, Putnam County, Indiana
Edwin Jehu Wilkinson (1874-1935) - buried in Chapel Cemetery, Brick Chapel, Putnam County, Indiana
Edith Wilkinson (1877-1878) - buried in Chapel Cemetery, Brick Chapel, Putnam County, Indiana

Elizabeth was his second wife.  I haven't found any mention of the name of his first wife.

It is not listed who Elizabeth's parents were as she is said to have been an orphan and brought to Indiana by Widow Cooper.  There isn't any information on who this is so far as I have found.

He was the son of Isaiah Vermillion (1782-1871) and Tabitha Cumi Akers Vermillion (1794-1879).  They are both buried in Vermillion Cemetery, Putnam County, Indiana.

Second he was married to Lucinda Corwine Vermillion (1816-1868) on February 18, 1841 in Henry County, Indiana.  She is buried nearby in Chapel Cemetery.

Had she survived, she would have had several siblings:
