Valhalla Memory Gardens

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington, Indiana.  This cemetery is located off of West 3rd Street on the west side of town.

We visited here on January 25, 2015 mostly because we didn't want to leave it off of our list.  I have never been a fan of this particular cemetery because I always felt that it seemed to generic and unappealing.  There are few graves here, mostly there are only placards in the ground and several mausoleums.  There is an older section near the back and a section that appear to be only for children.  I did find it interesting that there was a section with graves in Arabic.  I think that I may have also seen a grave or two in Chinese and maybe one in Hebrew, but I can't be one hundred percent sure on that.

Our first stop is at the grave of Robert William Bell.

Born: January, 1943
Died: January, 1943

I believe that this was taken in the children's section of the cemetery.  There is no information on his family.  I have heard that this section of the cemetery could have been for children that were born at Bloomington Hospital.  I am not sure of the validity of that statement as I can find no official record.

Here are two more children's graves.

The one on the right is for Donald Lee Chandler.

Born: October 8, 1936
Died: October 18, 1936

His parents were listed as Donald Wesley Chandler (1916-2006) and Rosetta Jane Little Chandler (1918-1997).  They are both buried in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

He had one other sibling:
Ronald Paul Chandler (1938-2015) - buried at Garrison Chapel Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.

The grave on the left is that of Jackie Lee Edwards.

Born: unknown
Died: October 15, 1936

There is no information on her family.

This is the headstone for Timothy Griffin.

Born: 1856
Died: June 1928

Once again, there is no information on his family.  The headstone is very lichen covered and hard to read, but I didn't see anything there that would be very helpful.

This is the grave for Nancy Elizabeth Richardson Hacker.

Born: April 16, 1851
Died: October 9, 1951

She is buried with her son , Paul McClain Hacker.

Born: February 28, 1903
Died: July 19, 1936

There is a lovely angel carved into the headstone.   This is carved to be a guide to heaven.

This is the grave for Margie Lou Langley.

Born: 1950
Died: August 1950

Her stone states that she was 5 weeks old when she died.  This stone is in the children's section of the cemetery.  There is a lamb carved into the top of the stone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And finally we come to the grave of Robert McGee.
Born: 1875
Died: February 6, 1936, Monroe County, Indiana
His stone is inscribed, "Gone but not forgotten".  There is a simple flower carved into the top of his stone.  It could be a dogwood flower which means resurrections, sacrifice and eternal life.
There is no family information for him.
 Lastly, we have these two graves.  I can only make out a few letters on the left hand grave and nothing on the right hand grave.  I do see that the grave on the left has a dogwood carved into it like the one above.  It symbolizes resurrection, sacrifice and eternal life.
