Hanson Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at Hanson Cemetery in Monroe County, Indiana.  It is located at the end of Hanson Cemetery Road.

This cemetery was founded in the early 1800's, but I am not sure of the exact time frame. There are 375 interments listed for this cemetery.

We visited on February 8, 2015.  It is surrounded by a large fence and gated, but the gate is not locked so visitors may enter. There is gravel parking in front.

This is the grave of Ephrain Deckard.

Born: ? 12, 1832
Died: 1900

There is an open book on the top of his grave which most likely symbolizes his faith.

I am not sure that his name is Ephrain Deckard.  I looks more like Ephram on the headstone, but it is hard to read.

Here is the grave of Phoebe Meadows.

Born: March 23, 1864
Died: August 10, 1894

She was the wife of Elsworth Meadows (?-?).  I am not sure where he is buried.

Neither of these graves that I took photos of are listed in the interment records.  The one on the left is for William Stewart.

Born: September 10, 1856
Died: December 2?, ??

The grave is worn and hard to read.

The grave on the right is for William Parker.
Born: 1869
Died: 1917

And his wife, Mary Parker.

Born: 1869
Died: 1930 (?)

One of them was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.  Women were allowed into the Order in the later 1920s, so I am not sure which one of them were members.
