Mitchell City Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at the Mitchell City Cemetery in Mitchell, Indiana.

We visited this cemetery on August 1, 2015 on our way back from Spring Mill State Park.  This is the largest cemetery in Mitchell with just under 8,000 interments.  There are many, many Civil War graves in this cemetery but we only were able to get a few pictures as it was very hot the day that we were there.

Our first stop is at the Bates Family vault.

The initials at the top of the vault are for Jacob Y. Bates, but I haven't found any actual information about his burial as of yet.  I have read that his wife, Emily Kelly Bates is buried in this vault with him, so the information that I have will be for her.
