Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown, Indiana.

This is the largest cemetery in Morgan County and is located in Morgantown proper just off of St. Rd. 135. The oldest section of the cemetery is right up front where there had been two huge beech trees. Unfortunately, during a large storm this last spring, one of them fell. Luckily, however, it missed hitting any of the graves. We visited this cemetery on July 19, 2015. Kinda funny that it took me this long to get around to visiting it since I used to live less than 5 miles from it for several years.

He was the son of David Adams (1762-1839) and Mary Polly Kephart Adams (1760-1830). His father is buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, Trafalgar, Johnson County, Indiana, but his mother is buried in Old Rockbridge Church Cemetery, Henry County, Kentucky.

He was married twice, but I am not sure which was his first wife or his second. Their names are Nancy E. Adams (?-?) and Mary K. Adams (1841-1919). Both of them applied for his pension after his death. Mary's name is carved on the opposite side of his headstone, but I am not sure where Nancy is buried.

Edwin B. Adams (1870-1876) - buried in East Hill Cemetery, Morgan County, Indiana.
He enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 22nd Indiana Infantry, Company C, on July 15, 1861. He was commissioned into the Field & Staff Indiana 145th Infantry on February 22, 1865. He had numerous promotions finally being promoted on March 13, 1865 to Brigadier General for his "gallant and meritorious services".

He was the son of Daniel M. Prosser (1787-1873) and Catherine Keith Prosser (1798-1858). Buried in Weeping Willow Cemetery in Beanblossom, Brown County, Indiana.
He had at least three siblings:

He was married to Elizabeth Prosser (1821-1902). Her name is carved into the opposite of the headstone.I haven't determined whether or not they had any children.
George served in the Civil War as a Private in the 27th Indiana Infantry, Company G and then again in the 70th Indiana Infantry, Company F. He was taken as a prisoner of war in Newtown, Virginia on May 24, 1862. After he was released and returned to his regiment, he was in Atlanta when he was wounded severely on July 30, 1864. He was shot in the right thigh just above the knee. Bone was shattered and the wound was so severe that he lost his leg to above the knee. He was discharged from service in Indianapolis on May 29, 1865.

He was the son of John Shank (1786-1835) and Nancy Doosing Shank (1790-1854). His father is buried on his own farm, John Shank Farm, in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio, while his mother is buried in Becam Cemetery in Damon, Brown County, Illinois.
He had at least one brother:
William Shank (1821-1906) - buried in Clayton South Side Cemetery, Adams County, Illinois. (He served in the Civil War as a Supply Sergeant for Sherman's Army.)

This grave is very worn and hard to read. It would appear that the child was the son of M.P. Sparks (?-?) and S.F. Sparks (?-?). I am not sure as to where they are buried or for that matter if the initials are right.

The headstone is very worn and hard to read, so I could not make out the first name. I could tell that there is a very nicely carved Freemason symbol at the top of the headstone.

She was the daughter of Sampson Canatsey (?-1857) and Nancy Richards Canatsey (1802-1875). Both are buried in East Hill Cemetery. They were some of the early pioneers of Morgan County.

George Richard Canatsey (1822-1881) - buried in Iola Cemetery, Allen County, Kansas.

She was married twice. Her first husband was Sylvanus Day (1823-1851). They were married on June 28, 1846 in Morgan County, Indiana. He is buried in East Hill Cemetery.
Her second husband was William A. Wood (?-?). They were married on August 29, 1852 in Morgan County, Indiana.
