Wampler Quarries Cemetery

Today's Walk Through the Tombstones is at the Wampler Quarries Cemetery in Monroe County, Indiana.

This cemetery of 15 interments was somewhat hard to find.  We drove past it several times before finally spotting the new cemetery sign pictured above.  There is nowhere to park, so we ended up parking in a gravel drive across the street and down the way a little.  It is just off of the side of N. Union Valley Road.  We visited here on June 08, 2015.  The cemetery is in very bad shape and has not been taken care of at all.  I have a feeling that it was recently discovered as many of the stones were leaning against each other or heaped on the ground.  Hopefully there will be some sort of restoration done on these stones.

First we come to a grouping of three graves.  On the left is the grave of Joseph Langwell.

Born: November 13, 1853
Died: January 16, 1857

He was the son of T.L. Langwell (?-?) and Sophia Wampler Langwell (1830-1854).  She is buried in Wampler Quarries Cemetery, though I am not sure where his father is buried.

Next we have the grave of Amanda Wampler.

Born: August 24, 1839
Died: February 6, 1842

She was the daughter of Jacob Wampler (1791-1872) and Mary Magdalena "Molley" King Wampler (1796-1855).  Both are buried in Wampler Quarries Cemetery.

She had at least two siblings:
Hiram Wampler (1815-1868) - buried in Dawson Cemetery, McLean County, Illinois.
John Wampler (1838-1862) - buried in Wampler Quarries Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.

This is the grave of Nancy James Copenhaver.

Born: 1795, Washington County, Virgina
Died: March 19, 1835, Monroe County, Indiana

She was the daughter of James James (?-?) and Elizabeth Huston James (?-?).  I am unsure as to where they are buried, but most likely in Virgina.

She was first married to Charles Moore (?-?) on May 20, 1813.  He died in Woodford County, Kentucky, but I am unsure as to where he was buried.

From this marriage, she had one son:

Charles Moore, Jr. (?-?) - unknown

Her second husband was Thomas Copenhaver (?-?) whom she moved to Monroe County, Indiana with in 1832.

They had 6 children, but I have not yet found any listings of their names.

This is the grave of Sophia Wampler Langwell.

Born: May 12, 1830
Died: April 23, 1854

She was the wife of Thomas Langwell (?-?).  I am unsure as to where he is buried.

She had one son:
Joseph Langwell (1853-1857) - buried in Wampler Quarries Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana.

This is the grave of the Infant Daughter Moore.

Born: unknown
Died: unknown

She was the daughter of C. Moore (?-?) and E. Moore (?-?).  I have no information on her parents or where they are buried.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here we have the grave of John S. Moore.
Born: September 8, 1841
Died: October 26, 1848
There is no indication as to who his family was.  I don't know if there is any relation between him and the Infant Moore listed above.  I do know that the last name is spelled differently, but that is not uncommon.
Here is the grave of Elizabeth Vint.
Born: 1832
Died: 1855
She was the wife of Joshua D. Vint (?-?).  I have found Joshua D. Vint listed at other cemeteries, but none of them fit into the right timeline.
Died: September 30, 1872
He was the husband of Mary Magdelana "Molley" King Wampler (1796-1855).  She is buried at Wampler Quarries Cemetery.
They had at least two children together:
Hiram Wampler (1815-1868) - buried in Dawson Cemetery, McLean County, Illinois.
 These two stones were too broken and degraded for me to read.  I know that there are a few other interments in this cemetery, but I can't be sure as to which ones these are for.
